Your Kansas City visit will not be complete until you listen to Kansas City’s famous jazz. From the roaring '20s to the early '40s, jazz reigned in KC. This rich jazz legacy flourished during Prohibition, when alcohol was allowed to flow freely in Kansas City. Musicians from around the world flocked to Kansas City because they knew they could find work here. Today, you can enjoy live jazz at more than 20 area nightclubs.
The American Jazz Museum is the first museum in the country devoted exclusively to jazz music. The museum features in-depth exhibits on such greats as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and more! The American Jazz Museum's Blue Room is a museum by day and at night comes to life as a working jazz club. Four nights a week, the Blue Room resonates with the sweet sounds of Kansas City jazz.
Kansas City is home to more than 200 fountains – more than any other city in the world except Rome. Beginning as watering troughs for horses in the late 1800’s, the fountains have grown into cherished forms of public art. The most photographed fountain in the “City of Fountains” is the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain at the Country Club Plaza.

What's Your Favorite BBQ Joint? This is a question often asked in Kansas City, and it’s a tough one! Barbecue gained popularity in the 1020s and hasn’t slowed down since. The secret to KC-style barbecue is that it’s slow-smoked for up to 18 hours, usually over hickory. Today, the city’s signature food is served up at more than 100 barbecue establishments, each boasting its personal house specialty and sauce.
Hop the MAX – the new bus rapid transit line, to the Crown Center, Union Station Hallmark Visitor Center. The Crown Center is often called a city within a city. Three levels of great shopping, dining and several entertainment attractions. It all surrounds the worldwide headquarters of Hallmark Cards. Experience more than 90 years of Hallmark Cards’ history presented through fun interactive exhibits, displays and videos that enable visitors to understand the creativity and craftsmanship involved in making Hallmark products,. Kansas City’s Union Station is the 2nd largest working train station in the country. This full-restored, 1914 landmark is home to an interactive family science center and a railroad museum, as well as shops and restaurants.
